Born in Kayseri on 11 August 1963, Ambassador Sedat Onal received his Bachelor’s Degree in the Faculty of Political Sciences, International Relations
from the University of Ankara.
Ambassador Onal began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989 and since then has assumed various posts both within the Ministry and in the Turkish diplomatic missions abroad.
He has served as Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Kuwait, as Vice Consul at the Turkish Consulate General in Münster and at the Turkish Consulate
General in New York and as Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Tehran. Ambassador Onal served as Consul General in Vienna between 2007-2009 and Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan between 2012-2016.
Ambassador Onal served as Deputy Director General at the Middle East Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey between
2009 and 2012 and as Deputy Undersecretary for the Noth Africa & Middle East and South Asia Affairs between 2016 and 2018.
Since August 2018, Ambassador Onal has been serving as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
